BIM-MEPAUS Technical Update
In our January news letter, we mentioned the imminent release of new generic design centrifugal pump families with enhanced multi-discipline functionality. We’re excited to release an updated centrifugal pump specification, industry product data template and Revit families which will be used as the benchmark for additional BIM-MEPAUS specifications and families planned for future release. Aligned to Australian Standards and BIM-MEPAUS guidelines derived from industry best practice workflows, the centrifugal pump data-sets apply an advanced level of industry relevance and flexibility from design to operation.
The centrifugal pump specification and industry product data template (PDT) have been updated in all areas to meet the requirements for design and in particular, life cycle management based on industry relevant maintenance contracts. Adopting a strategy to meet the needs of analytics based life cycle asset management – another very exciting development for BIM-MEPAUS – a new classification and product tagging strategy takes the OmniClass 2012 and UniClass 2015 product tables and sorts them to allow easier comprehension of table structures and codes. The new BIM-MEPAUS developed multi-services product classification and tagging structure is based on disciplines to meet the needs of designers, constructors, maintainers and owners. The formatted tables will be posted to the BIM-MEPAUS website later in March.
Expanding on existing end suction short and long coupled pumps plus inline single head arrangements, each of the updated three centrifugal pump generic design family catalogs now offer 38 different size types, for a total of 114 centrifugal pump types across the three families. This was achieved by adding a range of electric motor sizes associated with each impeller diameter. Electric motor settings are based on the latest international practice IEC 60034, 2018 determination of the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (GEMS), which stipulates Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) of IE2 (standard efficiency) to become mandatory from 14 May 2019. Additional standardised parameter and connector settings (hydraulic and power) have been established to aide system calculations and analysis plus work with PowerCad’s external electrical system calculation software.
